Dr. Zaiane is one of the leading researchers in data mining, machine learning, and database fields. He has contributed to ICDM and the data mining community in a wide range of roles. He has served in many organizational capacities in numerous conferences, including ICDM, KDD, SDM, PAKDD, SIGMOD/PODS, ECML/PKDD, and actively promotes data mining in many international communities such as serving as Honorary General Chair of the Francophone data mining conference EGC, and organizing and chairing the International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications (ADMA) in China for several years, currently serving on its steering committee.
Dr. Zaiane is a member of the ICDM steering committee. He has been on ICDM Program Committees for many years since the inception of the conference. He was PC co-chair of ICDM '07 and Vice Chair for ICDM '09, and enacted the double-blind policy at ICDM '07 - the first implementation of the double-blind review at a major data mining conference.
Dr. Zaiane currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of ACM SIGKDD Explorations (since 2008), and was Associate Editor from 2004 to 2007. He introduced several innovations such as the book reviews, the interviews and the Ph.D. dissertation abstract archive. He is also Associate Editor of Knowledge and Information Systems, among others. He was co-chair of the popular WebKDD workshop for many years and the co-founder of the multimedia data mining workshop MDM/KDD. Professor Zaiane is currently the secretary and treasurer of ACM SIGKDD.
With over 100 publications, Dr Zaiane has extensively contributed to many research areas, including data mining.
