Purpose
The Log Files panel enables you to select which types of log files you would like to keep and to define their settings. Log files are used to store information about the general operation of Java Web Server, including its servicing of client requests. These files can be useful for monitoring and analysis purposes.

The Log Outputs panel enables you to view the entries made in the logs you have selected. For more information on viewing log entries, see the Log Outputs online help document.

The Log Statistics panel enables you to sort and display the log file entries as various charts or tables. For more information on the presentation of log entries for analysis, see the Log Statistics online help document.

By default, the following log types are defined for the Java Web Server:

Fields
Log Name
The name of the log file.
 
Description
A brief description of the log and what it does.
 
Log Virtual Host Name
When enabled, adds the virtual host name to the end of the log message. This option is only applicable for access, agent, combined, and referer logs.
 
Which Messages
Gives you the choice of which messages to log for that service:
 
Log To
Determines how to store or display the log information. There are five choices:
 
File Name
Each log has its own log file name, and each service has its own directory for storing its logs. The service log directories are all stored in the directory
server_root/logs/
where server_root is the directory in which you installed Java Web Server.

Rollover File Size
The size limit on a rollover log file. When the log file reaches the size defined in this parameter, Java Web Server creates a new log file, and rolls the data over into the new file. The default is 1 Megabyte (1,000 KBytes). Maximum size is 10 Megabytes (10,000 KBytes).
 
Buffer Size
Determines how much data is stored in memory before being sent to the log file on disk. The default is 8 Kilobytes.
 
Buttons
Save
Writes your changes to Java Web Server and changes the settings.
 
Revert
Restores the previous settings for all fields in the screen. Use this button to undo changes you have not yet saved.
 
Defaults
Displays the settings that were active when you entered the Log Files page.
